The Taming of the Tyrant is originally a webtoon series which has been officially published in book format by FineToon (파인툰) since September 8, 2023.

The series has been published digitally in English by Tapas Media since May 17, 2021.

Synopsis[]

All Charlize Ronan ever wanted was to bring honor to her family. But instead, she is forced into becoming a “living sword” - a mere tool for the emperors. It is from this hell that she prays for justice… and awakens in her former body. Now, determined to tear down this horrible empire, Charlize seeks out the young prince, Dylan Blade. She will put him on the throne, not as an honorable ruler, but as a tyrant. It is time for Charlize to tame the one who will bring forth her revenge.

Story[]

Charlize Ronan, the youngest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Ronan, has a difficult life from the moment she was born. After her mother died in childbirth, she is labelled as a cursed and hated child by her father and two elder brothers. But with her gifted talent of swordsmanship, she quickly outshines all the knights of the land. Her goal: to become a glorious knight for the Empire, and to prove her worth to her family. But instead, she is forced by the emperor into becoming a “living sword” - a mere tool for his use.

Through the ancient magic of Ehrite's shards, the last remnants of a fallen god, Charlize is painfully turned into a magical sword with an ego and consciousness to be used by leaders of the Empire for the next 400 years. It is from this hell that she prays for justice to the gods… and perhaps why suddenly, she one day awakens in her former body at the age of 13, in the Imperial Year of 298. Now, with time rewound, she is determined to tear down the empire at any and all costs.

After two years of careful planning, Charlize seeks out the young and brilliant prince, Dylan Blade. In her former life as a sword, he lived as a reclusive but ruthless genius who pulled the strings of the Empire from the shadows. In this life, Charlize vows to put him on the throne - not as an honorable ruler, but as a tyrant. But there is more to Dylan than meets the eye, along with the ever-curious Duke Kahu of Delmon, who seems to know more than he lets on about Charlize's predicament.

Charlize Ronan[]

One of the main characters of the series. Having been granted her wish, Charlize wakes up to see herself in her previous body 400 years back into the past. No longer deciding to live to gain her family's favor nor either gain honor from the Ronan Duchy as well as a heart filled of hatred against the Imperial Family, Charlize decides to exact her revenge against the Empire through Dylan Sean Blade, the 13th son of the Emperor and the only one from the past who gave her compassion when she was still Keira, by becoming his tutor and training him to become the perfect tyrant to set things in motion of him being the one to bring down the empire.

Grand Duchess of Ronan (Rachel Ronan)[]

A fair woman who is the mother of Akan, Dante, and Charlize, as well as the wife of the Grand Duke of Ronan. Despite knowing that it would mean her death if she gave birth to Charlize, Rachel chose to sacrifice her life and give birth to Charlize as she had simply loved Charlize deeply.

Lucy[]

The guild master of Assassins, first introduced as someone who tried to assassinate Charlize. Despite failing to do so, she was gleeful over the fact that she was defeated and seemed to have fallen for Charlize, yet that didn't deter her from sending assassins over to assassinate Dylan, which were easily disposed of by Charlize. Pursuing Charlize, she helped in connecting Charlize to an intel who gave her valuable information about the Kenin Heirloom which was then used to get Duke Kenin's favor and gather more army in aiding Dylan and Charlize in the coup d'état against the emperor.

Remia Harre[]

A royal lady who was in love with Dylan and wished to be his spouse, Charlize having seen her fit to be the Crown Princess for her intellect as well as to have her family's army to aid them in the coup d'état, helped her by introducing her to Dylan. However, she showed up to Charlize in hysterics a day after, denouncing her wish for marriage with Dylan & pleading for Charlize pull back her help as she was "hiding a secret" that she is in a relationship with a commoner, an act of treason which is punishable for death. Despite being confused to how sudden and mysterious it was given that Remia was so confident the last time they saw each other, Charlize let her be. She was then stated to have gone to abroad, gotten married, and settled down there, never having returned. In truth, Dylan was heavily implied to have pulled some strings behind the scenes to quickly prevent this marriage from happening as he could do anything for Charlize, but he does not desire to marry a person who isn't Charlize.
