Be sure to follow the directions, spray morning and night. They lasted until day12.

I really enjoyed growing them, pearl oyster. I will let it rest and try a second crop..... I made 2 mini pizzas, an omelette for 2 and decorated sandwiches with the mushrooms.

Huge oyster mushrooms

I bought a kit that may have been on the shelf too long, it didn’t grow. I contacted customer service and was sent a fresh new kit. This one grew nicely. The oysters are huge! Great customer service! I’ve recommended to friends!

Two Kits

Received 2 kits as replacements. One flourishing magnificently, one dead, no activity no mushrooms. It seems like the one missed having spores on it at all. It has happened twice. One great, one just a block of compost. But I enjoy!!

I’ve done these a few times & they’re so much fun!! The process is simple & there are interesting changes daily! It’s a great activity for adults & children & could easily be worked into STEM lessons for homeschooling

Tasty Fun mushroom kits!

The most amazing mushroom growing kit! It’s so easy to grow and I’ve bought six mushroom kits so far! I especially like the pink oyster mushrooms because they are so pretty. The grey oyster mushrooms are good too and is so delicious. Most of my kits started growing within 2-4 days. It’s really fun and has a high yield! One of the pink mushroom kit grew three times! Definitely recommend for anyone who wants to have fun and have yummy shrooms!

The mushroom kit came out exactly like the picture shown in the box.It is easy to grow so everyone can make it. I enjoyed all recipes from mushrooms.I will buy the kit again in the future.

Awesomeness in a cardboard box

So I had trouble getting my mushrooms to grow the first go around. I emailed customer service and they sent me a replacement right away. I was finally able to see some growth and then the mushrooms grew like crazy!! On day 10 I harvested the mushrooms and fried them It was amazing!! I can’t wait to see if I can get the other side to grow as well!

It was fun to grow our own mushrooms! The box says the whole process takes about 12 days but our mushrooms were ready to harvest in about 9 days. It was amazing how fast they could grow. One day there was nothing there and the next there were huge mushrooms. We harvested about half a Tupperware full of mushrooms (see picture). You get a second harvest too, as well as seeds to plant heirloom tomatoes when you're done with the mushrooms. My only complaints were that the box stuck to my table leaving a mark and that the mushrooms spored all over the table leaving gross residue. I would definitely recommend putting a paper towel or something under the box. Also, for the price I could just go to the store and buy way more mushrooms, but I suppose the process is fun.

I was excited to try this innovative concept . I like mushrooms and I've never tried oyster mushrooms. I followed directions on the package to a T. I first soaked the block overnight then misted twice a day and kept them out of direct sunlight for ten days. The mushrooms grew as advertised. On day eight I could not wait and picked one of the larger mushrooms. I sliced it up and sauteed it in butter. DELICIOUS!! But the directions say 10 days to harvest. On day ten the mushrooms seemed to be cracking on the edges. I harvested a meager crop 2.3 oz. and prepared them. They were tough and stringy. So disappointing!!! I have the option to open the other side of the package and try again. I'm not so sure it's worth the effort.

Truthfully I didn't think that this would work. Basically it is a compressed pack of dirt and seeds that does not appear it would grow at all. In either case , it was worth a shot. I followed the easy instructions and placed it on my kitchen window sill. Low and behold a few days later, the "aliens" started to pop out of the dirts. The reason I call them aliens, is that my wife and daughter were freaked out about the little spores(as seen in the pictures). As the days went on though, they because bigger and bigger and eventually turned into normal looking mushrooms. They were easy to harvest and tasted great! The best thing about this, as you can use the other side of the packet and grow a whole second harvest, which I will do next. This is a great little box, especially if you want low maintenance mushroom crops.

The mushroom farm is an interesting novelty product, but it has more value as an educational tool than it does as a food item.It was pretty easy to get it going and the instructions were well-written. You simply open up one side of the box, then spray the "block" of soil / mushrooms twice a day. After a few days, the mushrooms start to emerge and they get progressively larger each day. After about 10 days or, they are big enough to harvest.A couple problems - it's hard to keep the mushrooms from drying out unless you can be there to spray them several times a day. Twice a day doesn't really seem to provide enough moisture. Also, the tiny spray bottle provided doesn't hold much water and is somewhat hard to use. Of course, you could always use your own larger sprayer.As for taste, the oyster mushrooms are fine, but I prefer the larger button type mushrooms you can find at the store. I cooked these and had them in an omelet, but the entire harvest of mushrooms was only enough for about one serving. You can open the other side of the box and get another crop, but I didn't feel like going through the growing routine again. Overall, if you like mushrooms, I think are better off just buying them at the store. Much easier, cheaper, and you don't have to worry about them drying out.

A great learning tool for kids. This mushroom growing kit is really impressive. Follow simple instructions and see mushrooms start to grow in one or two days. After that they grow amazingly fast, sometimes doubling every day. Get another growth from the back side of the kit, and maybe even a few more besides. My biggest problem was keeping it moist enough in our dry house, especially if we were gone for the day. The included mister helps quite a bit, but I also covered it lightly with plastic wrap and made sure that it was not in the sun (although it does need some light). Avoid the temptation of letting them get too large, as they can get a bit tough then. They tasted great sautéed with olive oil and onions!There’s also a great website that offers troubleshooting and tips.You can get a second, smaller crop from the other side of the growing medium “brick”, or if you want to wait awhile, place the container in the refrigerator until you are ready (within reason, I would guess). This is a live, product, so don’t expect to buy one then wait a year to use it, because it probably won't work. But it should last for a few months before you start. This probably isn’t cheaper than buying mushrooms at the grocery store, but really, this is more fun and education than anything. Great for kids, or yourself if you may be thinking of doing this on a larger scale in your garden. Makes a great gift, too.

Way cool mushroom farm .These are great oysters, and considered a prime species for hunters and foodies alike! They grow extremely fast too, just like in the wild.From day one, after giving the block a good soak, you will notice growth . First a swelling, then a cauliflower looking growth, then suddenly, you'll see loads of baby buttons on tiny stems. Mist twice daily, keep out of direct sunlight. Some of mine were ready to harvest in 6 days.Do not eat mushrooms if the body/stem is anything other than bright white . If the caps start to crack, They may be tough.Saute your oysters in butter and wine serve as a side or a topping. Yummo!

I have to say I was initially skeptical of the idea of being able to grow good mushrooms that I could eat. But after sprouting my first crop of healthy oyster mushrooms, I couldn't be happier. I attached a picture of my first harvest, which I stewed with several other vegetables and beef to make Japanese curry. The oyster mushrooms had a delicious chewy texture, and soaked up the curry so nicely. I can't wait to grow more crops to try making different dishes!

This is a fun and easy kid-friendly way to grow your own tasty oyster mushrooms in 7-9 days.We enjoy growing our own vegetables and flowers but had never tried growing our own mushrooms until we saw this Back To The Roots organic mushroom farm. Everything you need is included and our first crop was ready in 9 days (a little earlier than the 11-12 days estimated on the packaging).Once the first crop is finished, you can then turn the box around and repeat the whole process with the other side of the package to get a second crop. And when that’s all done, there is a package of cherry tomato seeds in the box so you can grow a crop of tomatoes too!!Getting it set up is easy. You punch out the square tear-out in the side of the box and slice the plastic bag in an ‘X’ shape using a craft knife or scissors. You remove the plastic bag of compost/mushroom spores, agitate the surface with a fork and soak it for a day (we soaked ours overnight) and then place it back in the box. You locate the box in a window that doesn’t get direct sunlight and spritz the mushrooms each day with water. A small pump sprayer is included.After the first 2-3 days you can see the small spores starting to sprout and within a week they are very visible and seem to grow very quickly. When they get to around 2” across, we harvested them and cooked them for breakfast and boy are these tasty!If you’re looking for a good fun project for the kids, this would be a great starting point since the mushrooms grow very quickly and sometimes appear to almost double in size overnight, so they will certainly keep the attention of tiny inquisitive minds.

It was great to use the Back To Roots Organic Mushroom farm kit in this growing season, These instructions were easier than the others I have used. The pictures will show how I soaked the bag, after cutting a X in the plastic. I soaked it overnight in a bowl of spring water , to make sure the mushrooms wouldn't have any taste from regular tap water. I placed it upright in a clean dry bowl and then wiped off the entire bag with a paper towel, to make sure not to wet the box when I put it back inside of it. A plastic spray bottle is included with the kit, to mist the cut side 2x a day . Mushrooms will start to grow in 1-2 weeks. You can make a stir fry, Taco's,Philly Cheesesteaks, etc with these mushrooms. They also enclosed a pk of cherry tomato seeds to use after you have harvested both sides of the portable farm.When the mushrooms become visable ,I will post the pictures!

This is educational, tasty and fun!I followed the instructions carefully and had a full crop of mushrooms in 7 days. I should have harvested at 6 days because a couple of the caps shed spores by the time I got around to harvesting. Anyway, easy to harvest and are tasty sautéed in a little butter and white wine.After harvesting, you can pop open the back of the box for a second crop.The cost is above what you'd pay for oyster mushrooms at the grocery. The farm is worth the price because the mushrooms can't be any fresher. And they're fun to grow.

This was fun, and I tried this hoping for the best but I got a poor result.I followed the directions and waited for the first signs of growth because I have never grown mushrooms before. The started to grow real fast within 2 days. I water misted them a few times every day and within a week or 10 days, they were ready to eat. And they were really good !!!So then I tried for another round of growth from the same side. It didn't work. So I read the directions again and turn the product over and tried for a second round of mushrooms from the other side as per the instructions. They didn't grow either. I followed the directions, but still no growth. I might try the other two smaller sides of the growing medium to see if I can get it to grow again.Overall, fun and interesting, but that's one expensive hand full of mushrooms. I could buy truffles at that price.

What a great practical and educational product!I got this more for my kids education than specifically for edibility, but we'll be sure to enjoy eating them as well. The kid's are in awe how quickly the mushrooms grow. Within a mere 7 days, half the box was already full of gigantic mushrooms. Just lightly mist the mushrooms twice a day and watch them take off. No garden or soil needed, as this grows right on your counter. Super neat, and no doubt a tasty organic treat for mushroom lovers. Please make more cool edible gardens like this!

Bought this for my son for Christmas. He loves to grow plants. Was really exciting to see the mushrooms growing, but after a few days they quit growing and got very hard - almost like a woody plant. We had watered/spritzed them, as directed. They only grew to about 1/2 the size shown on the box. We were really disappointed. My son was looking forward to harvesting them and cooking them.

This is my second. They can vary in productivity, but if you follow the directions they work very well and grow lots of yummy oyster mushrooms. The photo attached is my current kit which has about another 4-6 days before I can start harvesting. Every little bump has the potential to become a nice mushroom. As you can see, this one is going crazy.
